Slowly getting round to editing images from the Fringe at this years Scarborough Lit Fest and what a hoot it was. Despite having lived on the east coast for over a year, I’m only now beginning to discover the incredible wealth of talent that inhabits the town. And surprisingly there doesn’t seen to be a week that goes by without being introduced to yet another exceptionally talented writer, artist, poet, designer or thespian. However, the Lit Fest - it seems – adds another layer to that regional pool of incredible minds by casting much further afield; and subsequently the Long Weekend stands out as one of Yorkshire’s most upbeat sources of inspiration. Technically it was every photographer’s purgatory with a vanishing fluorescent light source and a manically busy backdrop. And not wishing to flood the room with disruptive additional lighting or flash - the lighting troubles can be exhausting when it comes round to editing time. Yet, from another perspective - documenting these events always has to be less about using our technical ken and more about simply being an eye-witness to some very remarkable and gifted individuals. Sometimes those techie aches are a blessing, they give you license to play…
